In 1995, MDA developed an interest in having a motorcycle run to raise money for Jerry’s Kids.
Shortly thereafter, they approached Art Mitchell and Dan Chance about hosting such an event.
Through such meager beginnings developed the Sierra Hope Ride. The ride started from Mitchell’s
Modesto Harley-Davidson, then of 9th Street, and followed darn near the same route we know and
love so well today. It would be another year before Jamestown Harley-Davidson and Vacaville
Harley-Davidson got involved. The first run had approximately 400 riders with Jefferson Starship
headlining the show. Unfortunately, we lost over $40,000!
However, perseverance pays off and in
the next 13 years, the Sierra Hope Ride has gone on to gross over $2.97 million dollars for MDA!!!
In those proceeding years, we’ve had greats such as War, Tommy Castro, Edgar Winter, and much
more grace the stage. Well, don’t think that we’re ready to stop yet. We have lots more in store
for you, so open up your hearts and your wallets, ‘cause there’s more to come.
