- 76.4% of every dollar MDA spends goes directly to research, health care services and
education, the rest to fund raising and administration.
- MDA has provided $84.9 million this year for its Health Care Services program.
- MDA has prqvided $22.2 million this year for its Professional and Public Health Education program.
- MDA has provided $34.2 million this year for research, funding some 400 projects worldwide.
- MDA maintains some 240 hospital-affiliated clinics, including 35 MDN ALS centers.
- MDA clinics are staffed by teams of top health professionals skilled in the diagnosis
and medical management of neuromuscular diseases. Services provided at MDA clinics may
include occupational therapy, selected diagnostic tests, genetic counseling, respiratory
therapy and more.
- MDA sponsored 90 weeklong summer camp sessions in 2004, serving more than 4,100 young
people across the country and in Puerto Rico. Over 4,700 volunteers give a week of their
time to serve as MDA camp counselors.
- 2004 Telethon final toteboard: $59.4 million
- Telethon 2004 was viewed by some 50 million people in the United States, Puerto Rico
and Canada, and by millions more worldwide via the Internet.
- Over the last 12 years, the Sierra Hope Ride has raised 2.5 million to
benefit MDA families.
